Moore & Huether Join Peters Repeat Effort as PFL’s Individual Week 10 Honorees

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – University of St. Thomas quarterback Andy Peters and kicker/punter Elliot Huether are joined by San Diego linebacker Tre Moore as the Pioneer Football League’s Week 10 Players of the Week, announced Sunday.

Peters passed or ran for St. Thomas’ first five touchdowns in a win against Marist to repeat as the league’s offensive award winner. Moore had two tackles for loss and an interception in a win against Dayton. Huether booted three 50-yard punts and averaged 47.4 yards per punt in the victory against Marist.

Drake remains unbeaten in PFL play at 5-0 and is being closely trailed by nationally ranked Presbyterian, which is 4-1 in league play. Dayton and St. Thomas are at 4-2 and Butler and San Diego are at 3-2, with three weeks remaining in the regular season.

Offensive

Andy Peters, St. Thomas (Graduate, Quarterback, Boise, Idaho)
Peters wins the PFL offensive honor for a second consecutive week after accounting for the game’s first five touchdowns in St. Thomas’ 45-0 victory against Marist. He completed 14-of-19 passes for 248 yards (17.7 yards per completion) and two touchdowns. Peters also ran for three touchdowns in a 13-carry, 28-yard effort. He opened the scoring with a 38-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Butler, then ran for the game’s next three touchdowns, which were all one-yard carries, the first at 2:44 left in the first quarter and then at 8:15 and 2:18 of the second quarter. Peters capped the first half scoring with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Luke Schuler with 13 seconds left in the half. He finished his day after leading St. Thomas’ final touchdown drive midway through the third quarter.

Others Nominated

  • Butler wide receiver Archie Cox caught four passes for 107 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Drake.
  • Drake tailback Nick Herman rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in a 24-19 victory against Butler.
  • Presbyterian quarterback Collin Hurst completed 26-of-32 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns and added a touchdown reception in a 43-14 victory against Valparaiso.
  • San Diego wide receiver Cole Monach had nine receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown in a 31-13 victory against Dayton.
  • Valparaiso quarterback completed 17-of-26 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown in a loss at Presbyterian.

Defensive

Tre Moore, San Diego (Senior, Linebacker, Chandler, Arizona)
Moore finished with six tackles (five solo), including two for loss and a sack, and had an interception in San Diego’s 31-13 victory against Dayton. After a San Diego fumble late in the first half, Moore led a defensive effort that only allowed Dayton to gain 10 yards. On back-to-back plays, he scored a sack and then intercepted a pass to end the drive and help preserve San Diego’s 7-0 lead while also setting up a drive that resulted in a touchdown just before the break.  

Others Nominated

  • Presbyterian defensive end finished with 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks as part of a four-tackle outing in a 43-14 victory against Valparaiso.
  • St. Thomas linebacker Nick Hand posted six tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup in a 45-0 victory against Marist.
  • Valparaiso defensive back Mark Johnson had forced a fumble that he recovered and picked off a pass in a loss at Presbyterian in a 31-13 victory against Dayton.
  • Valparaiso defensive lineman De’Andre Wilborn blocked a PAT in a loss at Presbyterian.

Special Teams

Elliot Huether, St. Thomas (Junior, Kicker/Punter, Minnetonka, Minnesota)
Huether averaged 47.4 yards on his five punts and made a 25-yard field goal in St. Thomas’ 45-0 PFL victory against Marist. Three of his five punts went for 50-plus yards, including a 56-yarder, with two of those punts among his three downed inside the 20-yard line. Marist finished with only nine punt return yards on two attempts. Huether also connected on a 25-yard field goal for the game’s final points in the fourth quarter. He also handled kickoff duties and had a second-half-opening onside kick recovered by the Tommies.

Others Nominated

  • Drake long snapper Brett Welsing was the trigger for three successful PATs, a 51-yard field goal, and five punts in a 24-19 victory at Butler.
  • Presbyterian punter Ethan Cartmel averaged 37.0 yards per punt, with all three punts downed inside the 20-yard line in a 43-14 victory against Valparaiso.
  • San Diego punt returner Yosei Takahashi averaged 43.6 yards on three punt returns, including a long of 68 yards, in a 31-13 victory against Dayton.
