WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven rallied from an 11-point deficit to defeat Marist 22-21 at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium on Friday night, taking the lead for good on Liam Quigley's 19-yard field goal with 4:07 remaining.
Marist took a 7-3 lead on Sonny Mannino's 5-yard touchdown run with 1:54 remaining in the first quarter and extended the advantage when Jordan Caldwell returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown early in the second. New Haven answered with AJ Duffy's 39-yard touchdown pass to Issac Glaudin, but Marist restored its 11-point lead early in the third quarter when Zach Garmont recovered a blocked punt in the end zone.
New Haven then mounted its comeback. Quigley connected on a 35-yard field goal with 10:57 left in the third quarter, and Duffy found Nate Burleson II for a 46-yard touchdown with 1:32 remaining in the period. New Haven failed on the ensuing two-point attempt, leaving Marist ahead 21-19. The Chargers then put together a 12-play, 64-yard drive in the fourth quarter, with Quigley converting the winning field goal.
Duffy completed 22 of 37 passes for 311 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for New Haven, while Glaudin caught seven passes for 99 yards and a touchdown. Quigley made all three of his field-goal attempts. Mannino completed 9 of 19 passes for 70 yards and rushed for a touchdown for Marist, while John DeCaro led the Red Foxes with 44 rushing yards.
