Drake stands all alone atop the Pioneer Football League standings after Week 9. The Bulldogs pulled past Marist to remain unbeaten in league play. Meanwhile, Dayton was the only home team to win a Week 9 affair and it came at the cost of previously unbeaten and nationally ranked Presbyterian. The Flyers and Blue Hose both have one loss in league play, along with a Butler outfit that was off this week. Elsewhere, San Diego, Morehead State, and St. Thomas all won on the road.

PFL Week 9 Quick hits

  • Drake has now won 22 of its last 23 PFL games dating back to the final three games of the 2022 season.
  • Presbyterian saw its 11-game win streak come to an end.
  • Dayton avenged its first home loss, to Butler in Week 8, by picking off Presbyterian in Week 9.

San Diego def. Davidson, 40-28
DAVIDSON, N.C. – San Diego used a 12-point fourth quarter to ease past Davidson by a 40-28 margin in PFL action on Saturday at Davidson College Stadium. Davidson tied the game with one minute remaining in the third quarter as Mason Sheron leveled the score at 28-28 with a five-yard touchdown run. But San Diego shut out the Wildcats in the fourth quarter and scored 12 points. Emiliano Salazar broke the tie with a 23-yard field goal with 10:34 remaining, Cole Monach provided insurance with a 30-yard reception from Dom Nankil, and the defense sealed the game with Evan Niemi recording a sack in the end zone for a safety. Nankil completed 25-of-36 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns to lead San Diego. Coulter Cleland completed 15-of-21 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns for Davidson.

Dayton def. Presbyterian, 35-19
DAYTON, Ohio – Dayton used a 21-point second quarter to power to the lead and hand Presbyterian its first loss of 2025, winning a 35-19 PFL decision on Saturday at Welcome Stadium. Presbyterian led 13-7 after Nathan Levicki’s one-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. But a wild sequence to begin the second quarter turned the momentum. Dayton saw its drive after the Presbyterian touchdown end in an interception at the Presbyterian nine-yard line. However, Presbyterian was held to a three-and-out and a punt that went just 21 yards to the Dayton 32-yard line. Dayton converted immediately as Luke Hansen ran 32 yards for a touchdown for a 14-13 lead. Presbyterian saw its ensuing drive end with an interception deep in its own territory, and Dayton converted again with a Gavin Lochow five-yard touchdown run for a 21-13 lead. Dayton scored again just before halftime, then got a 20-yard interception return midway through the third quarter to set its final tally with a 35-13 lead. Lochow ran for 133 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries for Dayton. Presbyterian’s Collin Hurst completed 14-of-23 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times.

Drake def. Marist, 31-17
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Logan Inagawa was responsible for three touchdowns and led Drake to a 31-17 PFL victory against Marist on Saturday at Tenney Stadium. Inagawa threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. His first touchdown pass provided the game’s first score, and his touchdown run gave Drake a 17-7 lead midway through the second quarter. Marist tied the game at 17-17 early in the third quarter on a Samer Layous 42-yard field goal. However, Drake scored the game’s next two touchdowns as Luke Woodson ran for a three-yard touchdown and Inagawa passed for an 11-yard touchdown for a 31-17 lead. Inagawa completed 10-of-13 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 81 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Sonny Mannino completed 17-of-28 asses for 161 yards for Marist.

Morehead State def. Valparaiso, 17-13
VALPARAISO, Ind. – Craig Cunningham scored two touchdowns to lead Morehead State past Valparaiso 17-13 in PFL action on Saturday at Brown Field. Cunningham’s first touchdown – a 22-yard reception from Carter Cravens – tied the game at 7-7  late in the first quarter. Valparaiso rebuilt its touchdown advantage on Rowan Keefe’s one-yard run midway through the second quarter before Morehead State trimmed it to a 13-10 lead at halftime. Cunningham gave Morehead State the lead for good with a four-yard touchdown run with 13:30 remaining, the 17-13 lead standing up the rest of the way.

St. Thomas def. Stetson, 52-10
DeLAND, Fla. – Andy Peters threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, leading St. Thomas to a 52-10 PFL victory against Stetson on Saturday at Spec Martin Stadium. Peters' touchdowns went for 63 yards to Stefano Giovannelli, 30 yards to Luke Schuler, and 19 yards to JaShawn Todd, while he added a one-yard touchdown run on the second half’s opening drive. Peters completed 22-of-29 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a game-leading 80 yards on 10 carries. Stetson was held to 100 yards of total offense, with three quarterbacks combining to complete 11-of-19 passes for 88 yards.
