Dayton's Vossler earns two national player of the week honors
» Back

University of Dayton senior defensive end Scott Vossler has earned two national weekly honors as a result of his performance in UD’s 23-20 win over Patriot League champion Fordham last Saturday at Welcome Stadium.  Vossler was selected The Sports Network’s FCS Special Teams Player of the Week, and was also named a College Sporting News National All-Star.

Vossler, a 2004 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School in St. Marys, Ohio, blocked two kicks that both resulted in points for UD in the Fordham win.  He blocked a punt that he picked up and ran back 35 yards for a touchdown, and then blocked a PAT that Joe Castaneda ran back for a defensive two-point conversion.  The blocked PAT swung the game from an apparent one-touchdown margin to a ten-point spread.

Vossler also had seven tackles (five solo), 0.5 sacks, 1.5 tackles for a loss, and knocked down a pass in the contest.  The punt block runback was his second touchdown of the year, and he is currently third in the PFL in scoring.  In addition, he leads the league in sacks (1.75), is second in tackles for a loss (2.25) and is tied for second in solo tackles (5.5).

He is also the national sack leader in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision.
