MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State led 21-0 after just nine minutes but could not hold on as Butler posted a 28-21 come-from-behind overtime victory, Saturday, at Jayne Stadium. The Eagles scored all of its 21 points in the first nine minutes, using big plays each time – a 60-yard touchdown pass, a 63-yard interception return for touchdown and another 28-yard touchdown pass. Butler finally got on the board in the third quarter as sophomore quarterback Andrew Huck threw the first of his four touchdown passes, including the game-tying score with 9:36 remaining in the fourth quarter. In overtime, Huck needed just two plays to give Butler its first lead, tossing a 22-yard touchdown strike to Eddie McHale. Morehead State saw its opportunity to extend the game end when sophomore safety Mark Giacomantonio intercepted a pass at the two-yard line. Huck finished the game completing 26-of-49 passes and overcame a three-interception outing with four touchdowns. Morehead State junior quarterback Evan Sawyer completed 9-of-20 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

Dayton def. Duquesne, 24-17 | Dayton Recap
DAYTON, Ohio – Senior quarterback Steve Valentino rolled up 348 yards of total offense and led Dayton to a 24-17 victory against Duquesne, Saturday, at Welcome Stadium. Dayton fell behind early but saw Valnetino throw a 58-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Justin Watkins in the second quarter to tie the game and a 62-yard touchdown strike to sophomore wide receiver Luke Bellman in the third quater to give Dayton a lead it would not relinquish. Making his second collegiate start at quarterback, Valentino completed 19-of-29 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns and also carried the ball 20 times for a team-best 76 yards.

Bucknell def. Marist, 17-16 | Marist Recap
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior running back O'Neil Anderson ran for a career-high 131 yards but it wasn't enough as Marist dropped a 17-16 decision to Bucknell, Saturday, at Mathewson Stadium. The Red Foxes dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 41:24, and also held a 368-168 advantage in yardage. Most of the game's scoring came in the fourth quarter as both teams combined for 19 of the games 33 points in the frame. Bucknell grabbed the lead with 1:51 remaining but Marist got a 60-yard kickoff return from Jaquan Bryant to set up a quick touchdown score by Anderson with 48 seconds left but the extra-point kick was blocked. Marist was undeterred and recovered the ensuing on-side kickoff and drove the ball to the 10 yard line and setting up a field-goal try, but that kick sailed wide right as time expired. 

Carthage def. Valparaiso, 34-24 | Valparaiso Recap
VALPARAISO, Ind. – Valparaiso rolled up 440 yards of offense but could not win its home opener, falling 34-24 to Carthage, Saturday, at Brown Field. Senior running back Ross Wiemer rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns while sophomore quarterback Bobby Wysocki  passed for a career-high 252 yards and another score for the Crusaders. Valparaiso battled poor field position all day with an average starting position of their own 23-yard line and only reached the red zone twice, converting once.
