ST. LOUIS, Mo. –The Pioneer Football League recognized a record 733 student-athletes from its 11 member institutions to the 2023 PFL Academic Honor Roll. It is the second consecutive year the league has recognized over 700 student-athletes on its honor roll.

The 733 student-athletes recognized broke the previous record of 725 set during the 2022 season. The league average of 66.6 student-athletes per school also broke a record set following the 2022 season.

Davidson led all PFL members with a program record 81 student-athletes recognized on the PFL Academic Honor Roll, breaking the mark of 80 set by Butler in 2015. Four other PFL member schools also saw a record number of student-athletes recognized on the academic honor roll: Marist (70), Morehead State (74), Presbyterian (57), and Valparaiso (65). In addition, Butler (72), Dayton (76), Drake (75), and St. Thomas (71) saw more than 70 student-athletes named to the honor roll.

Pioneer Football League athletic director and coaches established the honor roll in 2001 as a way to recognize the league’s outstanding student-athletes. The league has recognized over 11,000 student-athletes on the PFL Academic Honor Roll in its 23 seasons.

The PFL Academic Honor Roll consists of student-athletes who participated in football at member institutions during the semester of competition and posted a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the semester while enrolled full-time in accordance with NCAA rules.

The PFL is a truly national conference with members on each coast and throughout the nation’s heartland. Butler University, the University of Dayton, Drake University, and Valparaiso University were among the league’s founding members in 1993, with Davidson College, Marist College, Morehead State University, Presbyterian College, the University of San Diego, the University of St. Thomas, and Stetson University joining to form the current 11-team league.
